When it comes to a sweet tooth, you may be surprised by what can be healthy and satisfying at the same time! You don’t need to rely on traditional sweet treats such as candy bars and donuts to satisfy a craving – healthier options abound! Consider these suggestions when you want something sweet – they are lower in sugar than candy bars, but still decadent and pleasing!!
Healthy smoothie. Smoothies are a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth but sneak in some healthy ingredients, too! Cocoa nibs add that delish chocolate flavor profile and go great with a banana, coconut and almond milk – you can even toss in some spinach and you may not even know it’s there! And fruit smoothies are great way to add in their benefits – my 10-Week Plan has delicious healthy smoothie recipes, start your free trial to check them out!
Fruit Salad. I mentioned this in my Healthy Snacking post, and it still stands: One of the healthiest sweet treats there is is whole, fresh fruit. Berries such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are especially healthy, but any fruit is going to be a better option than a candy bar when you crave something sweet!
Small scoop of good quality, full fat ice cream. I make it a point not to have ice cream at home, so when we want it, we have to walk to the ice cream store to get a scoop! That way we are still indulging, but work off some of the calories. And the higher quality the ice cream, the better the flavor and texture will be – one small scoop will satisfy your senses!
Some good quality dark chocolate – savor it and really experience how good it tastes… less is more when it comes to quality foods, and dark chocolate isn’t an exception!
Candied ginger. This is a sweet treat with a zing to it, and has the added benefit of ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties.
Sweet and spicy tea. Many brands make a version that has a natural sweetness to it – it really can do the trick if you are craving something sweet!
And don’t forget that my 10-Week Plan has lots of delicious sweet suggestions to try out – that are healthy and easy to make! Start your free trial for access!!
