If you are on a path to being healthy (or healthier!) this year, then you may have cut out desserts as part of a “resolution.” For some, this may work, but I am more of an “everything in moderation” type of person… and if you are, too, then you know a sweet treat now and then is an important part of enjoying life! That’s why dessert can be part of a healthy lifestyle – you just need to make the right choices and choose a healthy dessert! So try these 4 healthy dessert suggestions!
Next time you are craving something sweet, consider these choices – all are healthier than traditional cookies, cakes or candy, and will leave you feeling good about the choice you made – while also satisfying your sweet tooth!
4 Healthy Dessert Suggestions
- Fresh fruit. I have always found fruit to be the perfect sweet tooth solution – most fruits are naturally high in water content and fiber, which help to fill you up, while also being sweet and delicious! Berries are an excellent choice, as they provide lots of antioxidants, and any sort of portable fruit such as apples, oranges and bananas are a great way to satisfy a sweet craving
- Protein cookies. I developed my EVER BETTERâ„¢ Protein Cookie Bites in part because I wanted a cookie that was sweet and delicious, but also guilt free! They are a great bite-sized snack (seven cookies to a serving!) that are soft, yummy, and filling. Plus they offer probiotics to support gut and immune health, and have 6 grams of protein in every serving. They come in four flavors to satisfy sweet and salty cravings: Brownie Bliss! (chewy, yummy brownie bites!), Double Chocolate Delight! (a decadent chocolate taste), PB Passion! (for all you peanut butter and chocolate lovers out there!), and Pumpkin Spice Joy! (delicious, spicy goodness in every bite!). All the satisfaction, none of the guilt!
- Small scoop of real ice cream. I love ice cream, and the richer and creamier, the better! So when I have an ice cream craving, I treat myself to a small scoop of whatever flavor I want. Full-fat versions versus lower fat mean you will be more satiated, and fill up more quickly … so you won’t be reaching for seconds or left wanting more. To make it even “healthier,” I walk to the ice cream store and get the scoop to go – a win-win for my taste buds and my waistline!
- Smoothies. The possibilities with smoothies are seemingly endless, but to keep them on a healthy path, try to start with a base of a neutral veggie – I like spinach as it blends in nicely with other, sweeter flavors. Then add whatever sweet flavor you are craving – frozen berries and water with a splash of orange juice, or a banana, coco powder and oat milk combination. Sometimes I toss in some of my EVER BETTERâ„¢ Brownie Bliss! Protein Bites for a little added flavor and texture – it’s like drinking a yummy brownie milkshake that is actually good for you!!
