Summer Sun Care Tips

Summer might just be my favorite season!! Spending time with family, being at the beach, relaxing alongside a pool, or catching up with friends at a BBQ or cookout are some of my favorite summer activities. All of these activities involve being outside in the sun, though. As much as I love soaking up the sunshine, I also know how important it is to take precautions to protect not only my skin but eyes and hair also! Try the following tips that will help keep you safe in the summer sun!

  1. Sunscreen. Never leave home without your sunscreen! Apply, not only when you’re at the beach or pool, but when you’re spending any substantial amount of time outside – even if it’s cloudy! Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and be sure to apply often.
  2. Sunnies. Don’t forget about your eyes! This tip goes for every season, not just summer. Protecting your eyes will prevent a variety of eye related issues that can occur as we age. Look for 100% UV ray protection sunglasses that are large enough to adequately cover your eyes.
  3. Hydrate. You probably think I’m going to say drink enough water. While it is absolutely true that drinking water is key to having healthy skin, keeping your hair hydrated is also important. Especially in the months with summer sun! You can make simple hair masks at home to give your salt water soaked locks a moisture boost with ingredients most people keep in their pantry – like coconut oil, olive oil and apple cider vinegar.

I hope these tips give you some insight on how important summer sun protection is. You have the power to enjoy all of the fun activities in the summer sun and be safe at the same time!
