A Three-Pronged Approach To Embracing Aging: Fitness, Nourishment and Well-Being
I am a true believer that the way you live your life defines how you feel (and even how you look!). You’re only as old as you feel; it’s your spirit and energy that really defines you, not your age. So let’s embrace the aging process by keeping our bodies, minds and outlooks healthy and positive. Start with these tips.Fitness And Healthy Aging – It’s All About The Heart!
It’s so important to keep your heart healthy as it will help maintain healthy blood pressure, decrease blood sugar and lower your risk for diabetes. Easy cardio workouts are a great way to condition the heart. My Walk with Me workout was specifically designed to keep us healthy as we age: it is easy on the joints, low impact, yet effective. So join me and let’s walk together – you can do it anywhere, even indoors!Nourish Your Healthy Aging Goals
What you eat can help keep you feeling young and energetic – it’s all about staying healthy from the inside out! One of my main nutrition tips for eating as we age is to try to eat “superfoods” every day – they are nutrient-dense foods that are great for your body, skin, energy levels and more:
• | A good breakfast suggestion is a bowl of oatmeal topped with fresh blueberries or blackberries and a handful of nuts. This combination of foods can promote energy, fight wrinkles, and provide the fiber we all need on a daily basis. |
• | For lunch, load up on the vegetables. I like to whip up a salad made with leafy greens, carrots, and other veggies I have on hand – drizzled with a little bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. This will give you fiber, tons of vitamins, and heart healthy fat! |
• | A healthy dinner option is salmon – I try to eat it at least once or twice a week because it’s such a miracle food. Not only does it nourish your skin and calm inflammation, but it‘s an extremely versatile protein: think blackened salmon tacos, brown-sugar glazed baked salmon, or salmon simply cooked with lemon and herbs. |
Have An Age Defying Attitude By Promoting Your Well-being
Your well-being should be as much of a priority as nutrition and fitness. I try to follow these two rules on a daily basis:
• | Wake up happy: Being optimistic will help shape a great attitude and improve your mood. |
• | Spend time with friends and family as much as possible: This will keep you feeling young and enthusiastic. |
