If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard “I’ll have what she’s having – I need some of that energy!”, I would never have to work another day in my life! The power of positivity is real and striving to have a positive outlook has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. Having a positive attitude and a grateful heart can truly change your life!
Forcing yourself to look on the bright side might not feel natural at first, but you can train your brain to be more positive. Adjusting a few behaviors – even one at a time if that’s what it takes – will slowly change your mentality and soon become second nature. Here’s a few things that can help you get that glass to be half full instead of half empty!
- Laugh. Having a good old fashioned belly laugh-til-you-cry moment will help to change your out look and your body too! Laughter tenses the muscles in your face and throughout your body. Speeds up your circulation, and makes you breathe faster which increases oxygen throughout your body. Research has also shown that laughter can help reduce tension and improve immune function.
- Monitor Your Self-Talk. Having negative thoughts can clutter up your mind. They will take up valuable mental and emotional energy that you need to put towards positivity. The key is to accept life as it is – in this moment. Don’t worry about things that you cannot control. When those negative thoughts start to creep in, practice stop-thinking. Literally say the word ‘stop’ out loud to break that negative cycle and regroup your thoughts.
- Count Your Blessings. Practicing gratitude is such a simple thing you can do daily to boost your mood. Just come up with one thing you are grateful for; say it out loud or even write it down in a journal. You can be grateful for things like your children or family, but you can also be grateful for little things – say the perfect avocado you chose at the grocery store or how the sunshine felt when you went for a walk!
- Blast out of Your Rut. Being stuck in a rut can be one of the biggest energy drainers! Although routine can be good and is often needed – don’t get stuck in that rut. Break out of it!! Research has proven that new experiences give you a burst of much needed energy. Try something new the next time you can!
These tips can be your positivity cheat sheet! I hope they help you to shift your mind in the right direction and boost your mood! There is nothing worse than cluttering your mind with negative thoughts that accomplish nothing. Choose to focus on the good and see what positive changes are made in your life!!
